East Timorese rebel leader Alfredo Reinado and other 56 inmates escaped last night from Dili‘s mail jail.

Australian and Portuguese forces initiated a massive manhunt for the escapees, which with their escape, created a new crisis for international security forces in East Timor. Australian SAS troopers using Black Hawk helicopters and night-vision goggles were involved in the search.

GNR‘s liaison officer, Lieutenant Cabrita told the Portuguese Rádio Renascença news agency that the prisoners took advantage of the relieve of guard to escape. “The evasion happened during the relieve of the forces that were serving in the jail’s security, having the escapees used vehicles for their escape”.

Later Australian police liaison officers confirmed the escape of the rebel leader. “It is understood 57 prisoners are currently unaccounted for, one of those being Mr Alfredo Reinado,” an Australian police spokesman said.

Alfredo Reinado is a former East Timorese Army officer who deserted and led a rebel group during the unrest in May, being blamed for some of the country’s violence during the security crisis.Him and other 14 soldiers of his rebel group were arrested on July by Australian troops for illegal possession of firearms after an GNR patrol found them with pistols, hundreds of ammunition and grenades in a house during a routine operation.

Of the other 56 prisoners unaccounted for, 16 are believed to be former Timorese police and soldiers accused of crimes committed during East Timor’s security crisis, and five prisoners convicted for homicide.

According to Becora’s prison warden Carlos Sarmento, the inmates had escaped by breaking down several walls on the prison’s east wing.

The East Timorese Justice Minister, Domingos Sarmento, blamed the international security forces for the jailbreak and told the Lusa news agency that the New Zealand forces in charge of the security of the prison’s exterior left the prison without informing the Timorese government.

“There was an agreement in which the forces of New Zealand would be in charge of the outside security of the prison, but about a week ago they left the location and didn’t inform us”, Domingos Sarmento said.

Domingos Sarmento said that he contacted the Australian-led forces so that the security outside the prison could be restored, but was told that the forces’ removal from the prison were due to the necessity of deploying troops in other points of the city.

The Minister recognized that the absence of police and military forces on the prison’s outside and the fact that the guard were unarmed contributed to facilitate the escape of the prisoners. Also recognizing that the use of weapons by the guards would improve the security in the jail, he noticed that the internal regulation doesn’t allow that use.

In the United States, a suspended Pennsylvania state trooper has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing his girlfriend’s estranged husband.

Kevin Foley, 43, faces a mandatory life sentence without parole for slashing to death John Yelenic, a Blairsville dentist who was in the final stages of divorcing his wife, Michele. Foley’s attorney said he plans to appeal the decision. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

Foley previously said he “loathed Dr. Yelenic” and asked another fellow trooper to help kill him. During his testimony, which lasted several hours, Foley claimed he was joking and had no true intention of carrying out the threat, but the Indiana County jury rejected that defense after about six hours of deliberations.

John Yelenic was found dead in his home on April 13, 2006, one day before he was planning on signing his divorce papers. Charges were brought against Foley in September 2007, more than 17 months after the murder.

Foley, who had been on suspension from the Pennsylvania State Police, was himself the final witness to take the stand Wednesday in the trial. Foley insisted he was innocent during his testimony, and even made jokes that the jury laughed at on a few occasions.

“I never made a threat with the intention of carrying it out,” Foley said under cross-examination by the prosecution.

When Senior Deputy Attorney General Anthony Krastek pressed Foley for what was funny about asking another state trooper to help him kill Yelenic, Foley answered, “There isn’t any joke. It’s just my personality, my behavior (with co-workers).”

Prosecutors said Foley killed Yelenic after going to the dentist’s house to confront him over the terms of the divorce. Prosecutors claim Foley slashed Yelenic several times with a knife and pushed his head through a small window. Yelenic bled to death.

“John has his justice tonight,” Mary Ann Clark, a cousin of Yelenic, told MSNBC. “John deserved this; he was the most wonderful person in the world. He died the most horrible death and tonight, this is his night. The system worked.”

Foley had been living with Michele Yelenic for two years at the time of the homicide. Prosecutors previously said Foley and Michele helped perpetuate rumors that Dr. Yelenic molested their son. John and Michele Yelenic had been separated in 2002. Michele Yelenic stood to collect Dr. Yelenic’s estate and a US$1 million life insurance policy, and could lose about $2,500 a month in support if the divorce was finalized, a Pennsylvania grand jury previously determined.

Michele Yelenic, who has not appeared at the trial, may face legal action herself, media reports indicated. A sentencing hearing for Foley is scheduled for June 1.

Buffalo, New York —A massive warehouse complex of at least 5 buildings caught on fire in Buffalo, New York on 111 Tonawanda Street, sending a plume of thick, jet black colored smoke into the air that could be seen as far away as 40 miles.

As of 6:40 a.m., the fire was under control, and firefighters were attempting to stop it from spreading, but could not get to the center of the fire because of severe amounts of debris. Later in the morning, the fire was extinguished.

“The fire is mostly under debris at this point. It’s under control, but it’s under some debris. We really can’t get to it. We’re just going to have to keep on pouring water on it so it doesn’t spread,” said Thomas Ashe, the fire chief for the North Buffalo based fire division who also added that at one point, at least 125 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze. One suffered minor injures and was able to take himself to the hospital to seek medical attention.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. as many as 3 explosions rocked the warehouse sending large mushroom clouds of thick black smoke into the air. After the third explosion, heat could be felt more than 100 feet away. The fire started in the front, one story building then quickly spread to three others, but fire fighters managed to stop the flames from spreading onto the 3 story building all the way at the back.

According to a Buffalo Police officer, who wished not to be named, the fire began at about 7:00 p.m. [Eastern time], starting as a one alarm fire. By 8:00 p.m., three fire companies were on the scene battling the blaze. Police also say that a smaller fire was reported in the same building on Saturday night, which caused little damage.

At the start of the fire, traffic was backed up nearly 4 miles on the 198 expressway going west toward the 190 Interstate and police had to shut down the Tonawanda street exit because the road is too close to the fire.

At one point, traffic on the 198 was moving so slow, at least a dozen people were seen getting out of their cars and walking down the expressway to watch the fire. That prompted as many as 10 police cars to be dispatched to the scene to force individuals back into their cars and close off one of the 2 lanes on the westbound side.

One woman, who wished not to be named as she is close to the owner of the warehouse, said the building is filled with “classic cars, forklifts, and money” and that owner “does not have insurance” coverage on the property. The building is not considered abandoned, but firefighters said that it is vacant.

Officials in Fort Erie, Ontario were also swamped with calls to fire departments when the wind blew the smoke over the Niagra River and into Canada.

It is not known what caused the fire, but a car is suspected to have caught on fire and there are reports from police and hazmat crews, that there were also large barrels of diesel fuel being stored in one building. Firefighters say the cause of the blaze is being treated as “suspicious.” The ATF is investigating the fire and will bring dogs in to search the debris.

Rachel Weisz wants Botox ban for actors

English actress Rachel Weisz thinks that Botox injections should be banned for all actors.

The 39-year-old actress, best known for her roles in the Mummy movie franchise and for her Academy Award-winning portrayal in The Constant Gardener, feels facial Botox injections leave actors less able to convey emotion and that it harms the acting industry as much as steroids harm athletes.

In an interview with UK’s Harper’s Bazaar, coming out next month, Weisz says, “It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” she claims. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

Currently living in New York, she also mentions that English women are much less worried about their physical appearance than in the United States. “I love the way girls in London dress,” she claimed. “It’s so different to the American ‘blow-dry and immaculate grooming’ thing.”

The thing that is getting in the first position, as far as family activities are concerned, has to be cooking with the help of an outdoor grill. It’s perfect for a family get together, everyone talking with each other while waiting for their food and watching how it is prepared. You can buy an grill in all sizes and price ranges, but you need to see if an exhaust system is needed.

It all depends on where it is placed and the what the wind direction is coming from most of the time, if you need to place an outdoor grill exhaust system or not. You don’t want your clothes getting contaminated by the smoke, it can stick to them for a long time and you will need to wash or dry clean them.

You need an grill exhaust because:

1. You do not want the smoke from you outdoor grill getting in your home, sticking to your furniture, carpets and other things laying around. The smell of smoke from a grill can be very penetrating and is something that will linger around a lot longer than you will like. When an exhaust system is attached to your outdoor grill you ensure that the smoke is sucked up and can not get in your home.

2. People gathering around the grill to speak with the cook or just to see what is on the coal do not want the inconvenience of the smoke. When you are out in the garden to have a nice meal and you all gather around the cooking island you do not want to have to end your conversations because the smoke stops you from breathing normally and stinging you eyes.

3. The food you are cooking needs to be watched and that is not going to happen if you can’t see it through the thick black smoke coming from the grill. Your guests will not think much of your cooking abilities when they are served under of overcooked food. And then there is also the health issue for the cook if he or she has to breath that smoke all the time while they cook the food.

Getting it on

Like with a lot of things in life you have a lot of choices when it comes to outdoor cooking grill exhaust systems. You can make it as expensive as you like. Maybe there is an exhaust that is specifically made for your model of grill. You will also find that there are models made to fit on more then one type of grill. Maybe the best thing to do is to ask a few people for advice, like the store where you bought the cooking device or the manufacturer.

Just remember that all this is for your safety and the people you invited to eat as it is for the protection of your personal belongings. To keep them free of (too much) smoke and to make the time together as enjoyable as possible. Eating outside with all your family and friends is nice way to pass the time.

French workers use threats in compensation demand

Posted by: in Uncategorized

Friday, July 17, 2009Following similar threats by workers at New Fabris and Nortel, workers at JLG in Tonneins, France, threatened to blow up several platform cranes. The JLG factory announced in April 2009 that it will fire 53 of its 163 workers by the end of 2009, while the remaining 110 jobs will not be secure over the next 2 years.

JLG Tonneins was acquired in 2006 with its parent JLG Industries, a maker of aerial work platforms, by the U.S.-based Oshkosh Corporation. Despite being hugely profitable in the past, production has been much reduced since 2008 with the contraction of the construction industry and lower demand for its products. Despite excellent past results the new American management demanded sweeping cuts at the company.

In the view of locals, “the company’s actions are a disgrace given the expensive perks, such as official cars, for its corporate fat cats, compared to the sacrifice, silence, and dignity demanded by the company of those it has made redundant.”

The management offered severance pay of 3,000 (US $4,200), however the workers demanded a severance package commensurate with “the wealth that their labor has generated.” Worker’s delegates requested a “supra-legal” payment of € 30,000, on Thursday 16 of July the management responded with a counter offer of € 16,000. On Thursday night the worker’s actions secured the € 30,000 settlement initially demanded.

If you have never submitted articles to directories before, it can be an overpowering task in the beginning. You need to educate yourself on the process as a step-by-step tutorial, especially if you do not know the first thing about it. There are plenty of wrongs and rights to article marketing and getting them into the right hands of other people.

The majority of directories provide free article submission, however there are some that provide paid submissions. I suggest the free submission directory sites, as there are a plethora of reputable free ones available. Submitting your written articles is easily the most effective free marketing there is on the internet today.

A Step by Step Guide to Submitting Articles to Directories

1) The first step is making sure your article is unique, meaning the piece is written in your own words. Copying others is strictly forbidden and will get you into hot water, and perhaps banned from the directories you submit to.

2) Write each article for your readers. You need to figure out what your site’s visitors are looking for. What do you provide on your web page? For instance; if your market is web development, your readers are likely searching for tips on how to build and establish a website. Therefore, you must concentrate writing for that specific subject in order to get the ideal traffic. Getting a consistent flow of traffic for your business is the reason for writing in the first place.

3) Always read the directory’s terms and conditions. Some won’t allow links in the body of the article, and there are some that do. Also how many links are permitted in your author’s resource box? The important thing is to respect the directory and always stick to their writing guidelines and terms of service so that you can maintain a reputable online relationship between you and the directory site owner.

4) Proofreading is a must. Not only should you review it two or three times, but you also need to run it through a spell and grammar check. It’s also smart to get another pair of eyes to look over your article before you submit it.

5) Once you have completed and proofread your written work, you may want to lay it aside and revisit it the following day. You could possibly come up with better content and perhaps a better viewpoint by doing so. There’s always room for improvement.

6) Prior to submitting your masterpiece, you will need to give yourself a pen name (author name). It’s a good idea to use your real name for this. By doing so, this informs everybody you are a real and credible person.

7) When you are pleased with the final editing, you are ready to submit your article. You’ll need to create a title and keywords, try to use keywords and phrases in your title that individuals will be more inclined to type into the various search engines for maximum exposure.

8) Next you need to provide a brief summary or introduction. The perfect summary is two to three sentences. When copying your article into the body section, keep in mind that most directories do allow HTML. Generally, you will see tags that are used with the specific directory you’re uploading to towards the top of the submission box. Be aware of what tags your able to use.

9) The next thing you will need to do (and this one is important), is fill in your bio box. This is where you include a little something about yourself, or about your site, and also include a link to it. Being as professional as possible with this step is vital to the traffic you receive. Your bio box will either make or break your advertising success, which means you definitely want to make it your best to create a call to action here.

10) Now it’s time to proofread again and review before posting. Never publish before pressing the “preview” button first. Once previewed and you are happy with it, click on the “submit” button. It usually takes two to three days to get accepted, however, some have been known to be accept in the same day.

After you’ve done this several times, you’ll be a pro at it. Keep writing and submitting, this is very important to your internet marketing success. Submitting a few articles won’t cut it, as you will have to repeat all of these steps again and again with new ones. Consistency will pay off with this particular marketing method.

Documents found at the hideout of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi revealed al-Qaeda‘s desire to force a war between the U.S. and Iran. The document was translated by Iraqi National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie, but the authenticity of the information could not be confirmed to be from al-Qaeda.

The documents reveal that al-Zarqawi was planning to destroy the relationship between the Shi’ite Iraqis and the United States. The document also said the U.S. military was hurting the insurgency by seizure of weapons, disrupting their financial outlets, massive arrests, and training Iraqi security forces.

The translated document said, “Generally speaking and despite the gloomy present situation, we find that the best solution in order to get out of this crisis is to involve the U.S. forces in waging a war against another country or any hostile groups.”

Mowaffaq al-Rubaie said, “These documents have given us the edge over al-Qaeda and (they) also gave us the whereabouts of their network, of their leaders, of their weapons and the way they lead the organization and the whereabouts of their meetings.”
